Sawyer County Forestry Committee

June 8, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by Chair Bassett.  Motion by Paulsen, second by Thompson to approve agenda.  Motion carried.

Motion by Gundersen, second by Bassett to approve the minutes of the May 7, 2010 meeting.  Motion carried.

Audience Recognition

John Saunders stated that he would be the host at the Southern Sawyer County Green Lake Trail Grand Opening later this morning.   Linda Zillmer asked if information on the UTV pilot program had been sent to the towns.  Peterson understood that the towns were sent the same information as the county.  Zillmer stated that the City of Birchwood and Town of Edgewater had not received the information and encouraged the county to share the information.

Proposal for Birkie storage buildings

Zuelsdorff passed out map to go with information in packet.  He stated that the building would be a small warming hut with equipment storage located at the Boedecker trail crossing.  If approved, the building would be constructed this summer.  An evaluation of use (problems, vandalism, etc.) would be conducted and if no problems, additional buildings along the Birkie Trail would be requested.  He stated that the Birkie would bear the entire cost.  Motion by Bassett, second by Thompson to approve the construction of a warming hut/storage building at the Boedecker trail crossing and recommend approval of the full County Board.  The issue of liability was discussed.  Motion carried. 

Sawyer County Forestry Report

Peterson:  1) 13 active sales; contractors are moving into summer wood, rain is holding some back.  2) ATV - waiting for delivery of Duck Pond rehab materials.

DNR forestry report

Koltz:  Nothing to report.

Monthly expense vouchers

Motion by Thompson, second by Bassett to approve the vouchers as presented.  Motion carried.

Other matters for discussion only

Monthly reports were passed out.

Closed Session

Motion at 9:55 AM by Bassett to go into closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(f), update on status of disciplinary action.  Motion carried.  Motion by Thompson, second by Paulsen to return to open session.  Motion carried.

Adjourn

Motion by Thompson, second by Paulsen to adjourn.  Motion carried.  The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 AM.

Southwest Sawyer County Trails - Green Lake Trail Opening - 11:30 AM

Committee members and other participants departed for the trail opening.
