Sawyer County Board of Supervisors

July 8, 2010, 7:00 a.m., Assembly Room, Sawyer County Courthouse

 

members present:  Fred Zietlow (Chair), Dean Pearson, Mel Olson, Walt Jaeger

 

also present:  Health and Human Services Department Director Pete Sanders, Dan and Patty Leslie (L & L Aviation - contracted Airport management), County Clerk Kris Mayberry

 

Motion by Jaeger, 2nd by Pearson, to approve the meeting agenda as presented.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Jaeger, 2nd by Pearson, to approve the June 9, 2010 meeting minutes.  Motion carried.

 

The Committee discussed and took no action on the proposal for department mail to be delivered to the Courthouse instead of departments picking up mail at the post office.

 

Maintenance Department Supervisor Dennis Erickson presented a report on projects completed, in progress, and planned by the Maintenance Department, including nearing completion of the remodeling of the Court areas of the Courthouse, the need for additional department storage, prisoner occupancy totals reaching the capacity of the jail, additional State of Wisconsin requirements for the Greenwood Lane residential facility, completion of equipping new Sheriff’s Department squad cars, and department vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.

 

The Committee discussed the need to determine a source of funds for installing signs designating County buildings and grounds as smoke free and determined that the Finance Committee should find the funds for the signs.

 

Maintenance Department Supervisor Dennis Erickson reported that an additional security door is necessary to separate the University of Wisconsin-Extension offices from the Health and Human Services Department offices at a cost of approximately $500.  Motion by Pearson, 2nd by Jaeger, to recommend Finance Committee and County Board approval of the expenditure.  Motion carried.

 

The Committee reviewed the monthly Maintenance Department expense vouchers.  Motion by Zietlow, 2nd by Jaeger, to approve the Maintenance Department report and monthly expense vouchers.  Motion carried.

 

Realtor Steve Bodenschatz, on behalf of Air Supreme, Inc., requested Sawyer County’s approval for the assignment of the Air Supreme hangar area lease at the Sawyer County Airport to William J. Wascher.  Mr. Wascher is purchasing the hangar from Air Supreme.  Motion by Jaeger, 2nd by Pearson, to approve the request.  Motion carried.

 

Dan and Patty Leslie (L & L Aviation - contracted Airport management) presented a report on projects, operations, and conditions at the Sawyer County Airport, including a busy June and 4th of July weekend at the Airport, FAA installation of a new dome or top to the VOR equipment at the Airport, upgrades to the aircraft hangar recently acquired by Dave Hermel, a kick-off meeting with representatives of the Bureau of Aeronautics and Bolton and Menk for the Airport improvement project, plans for terminal building painting, the continued collection of Airport automobile parking fees, and the fly-in breakfast scheduled for next weekend at the Airport.

 

The Committee discussed that David Carlson was again delinquent in paying the annual hangar area lease payments on the 2 hangars he owns at the Airport.  Motion by Jaeger, 2nd by Pearson, to authorize Sawyer County Corporation Counsel Thomas J. Duffy to take whatever action is necessary to collect the amount due or to void the lease.  Motion carried.

 

The Committee discussed the improvement project at the Sawyer County Airport that includes the installation of an instrument landing system, relocation of Airport Road, and construction of a parallel taxiway.

 

The Committee reviewed the monthly Airport expense vouchers.  Motion by Jaeger, 2nd by Pearson, to approve the Airport report and the monthly expense vouchers.  Motion carried.
