May 2010 Timber Sale Bids - Summary review and approval

A copy of compiled results of the bid opening held on May 3, 2010 was presented.  Peterson stated that 24 tracts were up for sale and the compiled results showed a $900 difference between November 2009 and May 2010.  Paulson asked how this compares with projected budget.  Peterson stated that $1.5 million in total sales is projected for 2010.  Motion by Bassett, second by Gunderson to approve the high bids on all tracts.  Motion carried.  Peterson handed out information regarding species/cords/MBF sold along with historical results from previous sales.

CAMBA presentation - update on projects

Ron Bergin presented PowerPoint presentation (including background of organization since inception for new committee members) on trail development and maintenance.  He stated that some bike trails double as snowshoe and hiking trails.  David Berard will be conducting a study on the trail this year.

Resolution to participate in UTV pilot program

Peterson stated that in the past 2 years, Sawyer County participated in a pilot program to determine compatibility and had received very few, if any, complaints (corners/sight lines, road routes, etc.).  The state has expanded the pilot program to all counties that want to participate.  UTV's would operate on ATV trails and routes (except on Federal Forest).  Paulsen questioned if there is any downside to this proposal - NONE.  UTV's are heavier and wider and travel at a slower speed - promotes family recreation.  Towns can opt out of pilot program.  Motion by Bassett, second by Gunderson to send to County Board with recommendation of approval.  Motion carried.

Direct sale  for Town of Lenroot gravel pit expansion

Town of Lenroot requested permission for gravel pit expansion (10 acres).  County needs to cut 6 acres of timber with a sale value of $2900.  Motion by Bassett, second by Pearson to approve direct sale.  Motion carried.
