minutes of the meeting of the Courthouse Committee
Sawyer County Board of Supervisors
February 9, 2010, 7:00 p.m., Assembly Room, Sawyer County Courthouse
members present: Dale Schleeter (Chair), Doug Mrotek, Ron Kinsley, Mel Olson (arrived at 7:10 p.m.)
also present: Information Technology Department Director Mike Coleson, Clerk of Circuit Court Anne Marie Danielson, Child Support Director Sandy Okamoto, County Surveyor Dan Pleoger, Human Resources Manager Carol Larson
Motion by Kinsley, 2nd by Mrotek, to approve the meeting agenda as presented. Motion carried.
Motion by Kinsley, 2nd by Mrotek, to approve the minutes of the meeting of January 7, 2010. Motion carried.
Information Technology Department Director Mike Coleson presented a department report, including a request for the County to pay the cost of Internet access from his hotel when he is on vacation so he can monitor and address any information technology problems during his absence. Motion by Kinsley, 2nd by Mrotek, to approve payment of the cost of the Internet connection. Motion carried.
County Surveyor Dan Pleoger gave the Survey Department report, including a report on a seminar he and his staff attended. He reported on proposed legislation for a flat recording fee.
Clerk of Circuit Court Anne Marie Danielson provided a Department activity report and reported on the proposal to move the UW-Extension offices to the Health & Human Services portion of the building and to expand the Court System into the current UW-Extension wing.
Child Support Director Sandy Okamoto gave the Child Support Department report. The Committee discussed LCO’s application for funding to do a feasibility study on creating a tribal Child Support Agency and the effect that would have on the Sawyer County Child Support agency.
The Committee reviewed the written Department report from Land Records Director Robyn Thake, including a request for out-of-county travel for GIS Specialist Brian DeVries to attend the Wisconsin Land Information Association meeting in Appleton on February 24-26, 2010.
Register in Probate Bonnie Struska submitted a request to attend the Juvenile Court Clerk Association Spring Seminar in Wauwatosa on April 21-23, 2010. She noted that the costs are covered by the Children’s Court Improvement Program grant funds.
Motion by Kinsley, 2nd by Mrotek, to approve the departmental reports and out-of-county travel. Motion carried.
Motion by Mrotek, 2nd by Olson, to approve the vouchers as submitted. Motion carried.
By consensus, the Committee determined that they would forego doing Department Head performance evaluations this year, under the provision in the Personnel-Administrative Policy Manual which allows extended evaluation periods for long-term employees.
Motion by Kinsley, 2nd by Olson, to adjourn. Motion carried.
