SENIOR RESOURCE CENTER (formerly Sawyer County Aging Unit)

PURPOSE: Non-profit organization that provides direct services to the elderly regarding entitlement programs (Medicare, Medicaid, SSI) and act as an advocate on their behalf. Nutrition sites and homebound meals delivered. Transportation available for non-emergency appointments. Programs to help elderly stay in their homes as well as companionship programs to help with loneliness. Newsletters.

 

ELIGIBILITY: Anyone 60 years or older for nutrition. Anyone 55 years or older for transportation.

 

FEE/COST: Donation asked for nutrition program. Suggested donation of $3.00. Transportation is fifteen cents per mile.

 

ELDER ABUSE AND NEGLECT

PURPOSE: To aid those who suffer from physical, mental, financial or self-abuse/neglect. The agency will investigate reports or abuse and neglect and arrange services as needed and desired.

ELIGIBILITY: Elderly or disabled adults.

PURPOSE: The LCO Senior Companion Program provides companionship to home-bound elderly people who live alone.  Senior companions provide for a variety of needs of the elderly, ranging from companionship to personal care needs to transportation for groceries, mail, etc.  Time requirements are 20 hours per week for five working days for which a small stipend of $2.20 is provided along with mileage, in-service training, physicals and paid absence.

 

ELIGIBILITY:  Age 60 and over, low-income and relatively good health; applicants should enjoy and be able to share their time, knowledge and concern with home-bound elderly; valid Wisconsin license and insurance also needed.  See Senior Companion Coordinator for application.

 

SAWYER COUNTY HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES - LONG TERM CARE

PURPOSE:  To provide advocacy support and protection and coordinate services for people with long term needs to enable them to live in their homes.  Provides services in client’ home including home modifications, adaptive equipment, homemaking and personal care.  Assists in locating adequate financial assistance and coordination of appropriate services from private agencies.  Respite and support for primary caregivers.

 

ELIGIBILITY:  Functional and financial criteria determined by an assessment process.

PURPOSE:  To provide nutritious noon meals, Monday through Friday, containing one-third of daily requirements.  Frozen meals available for weekends. Delivered to home-bound by volunteers.

 

ELIGIBILITY:  Must be 60+ years.  Donation asked.

PURPOSE:  Assists Wisconsin’s Seniors with their prescription drug costs.

 

ELIGIBILITY:  There are three levels of participation which are determined by your income.  Assets are not counted.
